Medication Assisted Treatment

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach used to treat substance use disorders, especially opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder.

MAT combines FDA-approved medications with counseling, behavioral therapy, recovery support, and ongoing clinical monitoring. The goal of MAT is not simply to replace one substance with another, but to

stabilize brain chemistry, reduce cravings, prevent withdrawal symptoms, lower the risk of relapse, and support long-term recovery. MAT can help individuals regain control of their lives while participating in therapy, rebuilding relationships, improving daily functioning, and working toward personal recovery goals.

At DIBE Arcadia Healthcare Services, MAT is provided in a compassionate, respectful, and clinically structured environment. Clients receive a comprehensive assessment to determine whether MAT is appropriate for their needs, medical history, substance use history, mental health symptoms, and recovery goals. Treatment may include medications such as buprenorphine, naltrexone, or other clinically appropriate options, along with individual therapy, group support, relapse prevention planning, medication monitoring, urine drug screening when appropriate, and coordination of care with other providers. MAT is most effective when it is individualized and paired with ongoing behavioral health services.

DIBE’s approach to MAT recognizes that recovery is a whole-person process. Many individuals struggling with substance use also experience anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, family stress, housing instability, or other social determinants of health that can affect recovery. For this reason, MAT services at DIBE focus not only on symptom stabilization, but also on education, harm reduction, emotional wellness, coping skills, accountability, and long-term support.

Through medication management, counseling, and recovery-focused care planning, DIBE helps clients build stability, reduce risk, and move toward a healthier and more independent life.
